Third Visual Project
So I'm collaborating with Will and we knew we wanted to comment on diversity on campus so we want to get the campus involved. we wanted to do something more along the limes of relational aesthetics but now its more of a community involvement piece. We want to put posters up that people can comment on and then take those posters and create a sculpted "St. Mary's Student" on which the diversity of the student population is presented. To emphasize the fact that we are going to counter stereotypes, we are going to create other sculpted bodies and have the end result be an installation of sorts where the audience sees the stereotypical students and then the diverse St.Mary's student. It's also a play on the idea "student body"...

Visual Project Ideas
So far I have had very little inspiration. I'm pretty sure I want to do a video response to Marina Abramovic. I really like the controversy over what the art is and how a reproduction is supposedly an outrageous idea. I think I want to focus on the idea of how people responded to her "The Artist is Present" piece and make a play off of it called "You are Present" or something to that effect. When people sat with her, they were looking at her but they were essentially alone with themselves. I had an administrator in high school tell a class of mine that "character" is how you act and who you become when nobody is watching. I think I want to do a video based on that. Maybe have a series of many people... We'll see where that takes me I guess.

The Wall Response
The project was conceptual because she started on male end
and he started on female end, meet in the middle and walk towards their sides. It
started as a movement of romantic love but developed into a thing of
development and change as they started at different places and broke up.He had
complications with authorities but no terrain and she had no problems with authority
but with terrain. She never really had a plan; he used a map. He was structured
and she was chaotic and surrendered to the situation. He wouldn’t adapt. They
walked different lines. They had different goals in mind. She wanted to get
stories from locals, not the history of the wall but the myths of it. She
surrendered to the experience and he broke the flag that symbolized surrender. Commitment
to the other and trust that the other would definitely stick to and that they
would be there in the end. Despite the change, they still committed and
followed through. In the end, they
wrote the same poem. And quoted the same one. “Clouded in the sky, dust in the
eye.” The narrative is art in itself, like a myth.
